hey i don't know how to start this .. so i'm gonna make it simple for you so that u can understand me i have an idea >> abo el ideas ![]() i want each of u guyz tell us how did they learn English by answering simple questions how did he learn english ? when did he learn english ? where and for how long and how good his english is ? in Gaza most of ppl learn the formal english or let me say learn " about english " not learning english the methods that most of ppl use to learn english is umm seems to be soo wrong learning using text books , englsh teacherz in schools it doesn't really make you that good english speaker i believe that the english that they teach us in skoolz ain't the real english that native english speakerz use now dayz see , i dnt know if u noticed guyz but anyone who tried to learn english from txt books and skool english teacherz then he tried to speak with native english speakerz he won't understand a word of what will they say it's gonna be hard for him to speak , and listen to native english speakerz in skoolz they teach us the formal english or about english i don't know what to call it really but it's not real english i think that the right way to learn it is to learn it like a baby does like how we learnt arabic as babyz we used to listen all the time to our families we were able to match between theyr sounds words with thyr actions that how we understood arabic then we started to simulate the speaking part after finishin the listening part without noticing the grammerz , rules and all those stuff we didn't knw what is montda2 and what is 5bar and fa3el we don't use it while we're speaking it just goes like that ,, think in arabic , speak arabic i think that's how we should learn english as babyz listening , then simulating .. learning grammer and using txt books won't help you bel3aks it will make it harder for you to speak english see ,, when you learn grammer at 1st you have to pass a lot of steps to speak 1st you have to think in arabic of what will you say then you have to translate it to english then you have to think what rule and what gramerz u have to use in each case it kinda takes along time to do you'll sound like a robot ,, and native english speakerz will laugh at you there is no use of grammer ,, see i think that native english speakerz learn grammer at high schools ,>> nela e7na bd7sholna elgrammer fe elebtda2ya w el6aleb b6la3 donkey any ways any ways .. here's how i learnt english well ,, i think that TV have the biggest part english songs those were my listening part then i started to speak with native english speakerz from all over the world which made my english skills better than ever that was the simulating part i learnt from my mistakes and i still do i started to learn it yrz ago , i dnt rememeber but i think it's 5-6 yrz i don't know if my english is good or not i'm not the one to judge but native english speakrz dont laugh at me , they understand me and i do 2 .. so i think it's good now it's ur turn bye .. ![]() PS : it's a backup post for maroko's post where she said that lang's section is soo poor :P |

Well Hello there Mr. Farqou3 how delightful is it to see you your posts. ![]() << im learning the British accent =P ![]() ![]() well i'm in the mood of talking so here it goes.. ![]() i atteneded elementary school all the way through grade 10 in gaza actually, but i moved to canada in 2006 when i was grade 11, and finished my high school years here to be honest really, i agree with you regarding the teaching methods done in gaza it is poorly done, though i benefited from my knowledge of vocabulary and that's pretty much it the grammar i learned was messed up and the speaking part was almost equivalent to none-learned hehe ![]() though, I've managed to catch up and went to an extensive ESL course as i arrived here, it was one year long, like two semesters and when i finished, i was good to go, to be honest everyone is surprised at how fast i've learned the language and how i was able to speak it fluently ![]() i had a bit of a problem with my accent before, i like HATED it .. so i worked on it and it's nowit's gone did i miss any questions ? ![]() !

would you like me to reply in english? ![]() welcome to the school, hope that you had your breakfast and had done your homework ![]() first i do agree with you that learning in arabic school would not give you the enough strenght in english so you will not be aa perfect speaker as the native speakers but, english will be improving as long as you deal with native speakers for me, i failed in the toefl exam for the first time then i got a perfect mark which means that my english language is improving and now i'am dealing with english all the time at the university, and even with most of people on the other hand, people in gaza are only local, which means they can't practice english with each other and that is the reason of their weak language anyway, there are many ways to improve their selves watching movies is one way, and trying to read more and more in english by the time you'll find it easier to accept this simple language and to deal with it involanturly let me say that your englis is perfect, but you have some spelling mistakes could be on purpose |

i have been learning english since i was 5, i've learnt it at school, but it's not where i'v got my skills from. i've got it from watching tv and listening to music. practicing the language is the secret of speaking it perfectly. what you said about schools, well, i think learning the formal english language is not wrong, there's 2 mistakes though: 1. methods of teaching are bullshit 2. english teachers can't speak english as to those 2 points there's too many thing to be said, that inspires me to maybe start giving english lessons for beginners here in the language section. i liked iner's comment, that part when he said because we are all arabic native speakers we cannot practice the language together. he's right about it, we can't practice it with each other but we can engourage and get encouraged to practice the language with english natives. ummm, notice to you, ya shaweesh, your english is good, but you're wrong about saying that it's the real english, most people choose to speak the way i'm speaking right now, you need some formality when dealing with different types of people. dam3et eshtya2 seems to have a very good language, i support you with your british accent learning, even though i've learnt the american, but british seems more appropriate. anyway, i talk too much i'm starting to annoy myself glad you started the topic hope you guyz come back and discuss it more thx |

Nice topic mr. fargoo3 .. and about your question how did I learn english .. I learnt it beshweesh :$ e7m.. I mean learning english can't be through books only !! you have to speak with native speakers in order to master the language By reading the books only, u can study vocabulary & grammer, but you will miss listening and speaking which are the most essential parts in learning any language I studied english in school for 12 years .. I always get high grades in English in the range of 98-100 based on grammer and writting, but guess what.. that was useless in real life ![]() What is the point of knowing so much vocabulary if you can't use them in the right time with english speakers? and btw I am not considering indians to be one of them ![]() to make the long speech short, what really improved my english skills is practising English with my foriegn doctors in university .. All the courses we studied were in English , even Islamic studies, quran & hadeeth ![]() so my advice to you all is to : listen, speak, make mistakes and learn from your mistakes and ask if you have any questions, because as our doctors used to say : It is better to risk a moment of shame against a lifetime of ignorance luminous all << I mean mnawreen

hala uncle first .. I wanna thank u for ur meaningful topic and about your question ..of course I learned "about english" in school but when I tried 2 use it in the real life .. I stumbled ![]() cuz it was hard to speak what i learned Understanding what people say was pretty easy to me, the difficult part was to reply back and to make conversations with them I improve my listening skills by watching movies and series and playing games ![]() after that I used to speak English all the time with my foreign friends to improve my speaking skills then.. I passed IELTS exam and Now in university I feel that my english skills are becoming better, and I will work hard on improving them more I know my answer is short .. but this is what dangerous in my mind :$ <<<<<<< I mean this is what 5a6ar 3la baly ![]() |
